Human Population typically refers to the number of people in a single area, whether it is a city or town, region, country, continent, or the world.

We live on a human-dominated planet and the momentum of human population growth, together with the imperative for further economic development in most of the world, ensures that our dominance will increase.

Human population growth and over consumption are at the root of our most pressing environmental problems that plague our planet - including the species extinction crisis, habitat loss, climate change, ocean acidification and resource depletion.

As long as population growth and increased consumption levels are viewed as inherently positive, countries will continue to destroy their natural heritage in the quest to keep the human population from collapsing. The result will be devastating to communities seeking a sustainable balance and catastrophic for endangered species, which are being squeezed ever closer to extinction.

New technologies can help some species rebound, but in the long run, much of this progress will be undermined if the human population, and its voracious appetite, keep growing unsustainably.

Our runaway population growth is too often ignored by the public, the media and even the environmental movement. No one, including the politicians, has been paying any attention.

As the world’s population rises and demands more access to resources, the issues associated with the commons become more severe. It’s clear that these issues need to be addressed before it’s too late.

I think the world’s human population should be reduced. Experts should come to conclusion as to what human population can our planet sustain and everyone, including world leaders, should aim to attain that goal in the long run.

Choices we make today affect the future of our species - and all life on Earth.

Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed
